Changes in Online Poker Room Deposits
You may or may not have heard, but the United States has passed a law known as the “Illegal Internet Gambling Enforcement Act” of 2006. This act focuses on restricting the way that online poker players fund their accounts. This affects online casinos as well.
What does this mean for us?
As online poker players, we use these e-wallets and financial institutions to fund our accounts. If the United States restricts funds from transferring through these companies, we have a problem. US players won’t be able to transfer funds through the e-wallets at all, at least not without hassle. Those players not in the US will be affected as well. Without the business of the US, these e-wallet companies will be losing major revenue, and may not be in business for very long.
So what can we do about this?
For US players, there aren’t very many options. The only real discussed option is to go back to the old paper check transactions, meaning that you will have to fund your account with a paper check, and receive your withdrawal with a paper check. This will work because it is extremely difficult for banks to audit checks to and from the online gambling companies, and most will pass through.
At the time of this writing, US players may still use an e-wallet known as Neteller. I recommend moving your funds from whatever other e-wallet that you are using and putting them into a Neteller account.
For Non-US players, I recommend that you do the same. Take your funds and move them to Neteller. Neteller is the largest e-wallet that is used for gambling related transactions and therefore, has a very slim chance of going out of business like other e-wallets may do.
